Calgary Immigrant Women's Association (CIWA)

CIWA's GBV and Mental Health program provides counselling, safety planning, and system navigation support for immigrant and racialized women in Calgary experiencing intimate partner violence or family violence. Services are delivered in multiple languages by staff who understand the specific barriers newcomer women face, including immigration status concerns, isolation from family networks, and distrust of institutions like police and child welfare. The program works alongside shelter, legal, and settlement services to provide wraparound support. CIWA also runs prevention and community education work addressing the roots of GBV in newcomer communities.
